Congratulations to Professors Eslam Khalaf and Matteo Mitrano, who are among the 126 early-career researchers selected to receive a Sloan Research Fellowship in 2026!

Awarded annually since 1955, the fellowships honor exceptional researchers at US and Canadian educational institutions, whose creativity, innovation, and research accomplishments make them stand out as the next generation of leaders.

From the Sloan Foundation's press release:

> “The Sloan Research Fellows are among the most promising early-career researchers in the U.S. and Canada, already driving meaningful progress in their respective disciplines,” says Stacie Bloom, president and chief executive officer of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. “We look forward to seeing how these exceptional scholars continue to unlock new scientific advancements, redefine their fields, and foster the wellbeing and knowledge of all.”
>
> A Sloan Research Fellowship is one of the most prestigious awards available to young researchers, in part because so many past Fellows have gone on to become distinguished figures in science...
>
> Fellows in this year’s cohort are drawn from 44 institutions across the United States and Canada. More than 1,000 researchers are nominated by their fellow scientists each year. Open to scholars in seven fields—chemistry, computer science, Earth system science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, and physics—the fellowships are awarded in close coordination with the scientific community. Winners are selected by independent panels of senior scholars based on their research accomplishments, creativity, and potential to become a leader in their field.
