 

#  Vishwanath elected to the National Academy of Sciences

 Ashvin Vishwanath, George Vasmer Leverett Professor of Physics, has been elected to the [National Academy of Sciences](https://www.nasonline.org/news-and-multimedia/news/2024-nas-election.html).

 The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is a private, nonprofit organization of the country’s leading researchers that recognizes and promotes outstanding science through election to membership; publication in its journal, *PNAS*; and its awards, programs, and special activities. Members are elected to the NAS in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Membership is a widely accepted mark of excellence in science and is considered one of the highest honors that a scientist can receive.
