October 24, 2023

Prof. Ashvin Vishwanath is a co-recipient, with Prof. Qikun Xue (Tsinghua University, China), of the [2024 Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Physics Prize](https://www.aps.org/programs/honors/prizes/prizerecipient.cfm?last_nm=Vishwanath&first_nm=Ashvin&year=2024). Prof. Vishwanath's citation reads "*for groundbreaking theoretical and experimental studies on the collective electronic properties of materials that reflect topological aspects of their band structure.*"

The prize was endowed in 1952 by AT&T Bell Laboratories (now Bell Laboratories, Alcatel-Lucent) and is currently co-sponsored with the HTC-VIA Group as a means of recognizing outstanding theoretical or experimental contributions to condensed matter physics. It is named in memory of [Oliver E. Buckley](http://www.bell-labs.com/history/presidents/buckley.html), an influential president of Bell Labs.
