The Department Welcomes a New Faculty Member: Ashvin Vishwanath
Ashvin Vishwanath is a theoretical physicist specializing in the study of Condensed Matter Physics. He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 2001 and, from 2001-2004, had an appointment as a Pappalardo Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT. In 2004, Vishwanath joined the faculty of the Physics Department at UC Berkeley, where he is currently investigating systems of many quantum particles, in which strong interactions lead to new states of matter. These new states can potentially be realized in experimental systems ranging from strongly correlated materials to dilute atomic gases confined to optical lattices. (To learn more, please visit the Vishwanath Group webpage at UC Berkeley.)
Prof. Vishwanath will be joining the Harvard Department of Physics in July, 2016.
