Since 1976, the Association of American Publishers has been recognizing the very best in professional and scholarly publishing with Professional and Scholarly Excellence (PROSE) Awards for the authors, editors, and publishers "whose landmark works have made significant advancements in their respective fields of study." The awards are divided into 41 categories which encompass Biological and Life Sciences, Humanities, Physical Sciences and Mathematics, and Social Sciences. According to Nigel Fletcher-Jones, the program’s chief juror, "This year’s PROSE Awards were one of the most competitive to date, highlighting the broad array of high-quality scholarly works available to reader."
