Congratulations to our recipients of Spring & Fall 2021 Certificates of Distinction and Excellence in Teaching (Q Awards)!

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) and the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) give teaching awards to lecturers and preceptors, graduate student TFs and TAs, and undergraduate CAs. These awards are based on an overall score of 4.50 or higher with a minimum of 5 evaluations on the Q section evaluations.

Harvard and MIT Physicists Steer Chemical Reactions by Quantum Interference

Hyungmok Son, a recent Harvard Physics Ph.D graduate, and his colleague at Harvard-MIT Center for Ultracold Atoms (CUA) have developed a new approach to control the outcome of chemical reactions at the quantum level. Traditionally, chemical reactions are controlled with temperature and chemical catalysts, but more recently, with external electromagnetic fields. For instance, researchers of Doyle group at Harvard University suppressed reactive collisions between CaF molecules by applying microwaves.

Howard C. Berg, Herchel Smith Professor of Physics and Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology, Emeritus, died on December 30, 2021, at age 87. Berg, through five decades of study of bacterial motile behavior, helped establish foundations for modern quantitative biology.
